Tony's BBQ and Steakhouse, Clear Lake

I'm hungry, but I have no idea what I want to eat. I am tired of the same old places so I start searching on my BlackBerry for places close by that I have never been to. After watching Man vs. Food all day (literally it was like a 14 hour marathon!) I am craving BBQ. I find a place less than a mile away that is supposed to have really good BBQ called Tony's BBQ and Steakhouse on Saturn Lane. I think, "What the heck" and head on over there.

DANGER! DANGER!!! Empty parking lt during dinner time equal BAD TIMES!!! I brave it anyway and go inside. There are a total of 2 people eating inside and it kind of creeps me out because they keep staring at me. I look at the menu and they have lots of the BBQ joint staples: Chicken, Pork, Ribs, etc. Nothing original, but as long as they cook it right it doesn't have to be groundbreaking. BBQ Dinner plates come with 2 sides and some bread. I decide on ribs (my favorite BBQ item) with cheese corn bake, dirty rice, and jalapeno cheese bread. They offer me sauce, but I want it on the side.
It looks good, but still, nothing overwhelming. Hope it tastes better than it looks because then it will be just an average meal...

I am ready for some sweet BBQ action. Now let's tear into that bad boy!

The ribs are....ok. As with everything about this place, it's ok, but nothing spectacular. Even the sauce was ok. However, when the sauce is combined with the ribs made it very, very tasty. I was impressed enough to have it drop into my mouth, but not enough to take a picture of me with BBQ sauce on my face.

However, the superstar of the meal was the cheesy corn bake. IT WAS AMAZING. So...much...cheese...so...much...corn....so...much...yumminess. It deserves to be the biggest picture of the blog. That made the trip worth it. Even the dirty rice was really good. I really liked the jalapeno cheese bread too. They bake their own bread there, which is even more impressive too. You bake bread there, but you can't make a decent rib?
Overall, I don't know if I would go back. The main thing (BBQ) was disturbingly average, while the sides were amazing. Maybe ribs are not their specialty, but I believe you earn your BBQ cred from ribs amd they failed.
If you want to check them out, I do not recommend the ribs. If you get something else, let me know and I might consider going, if only to get more cheesy corn bake!
