Before I begin, I just want to say a couple things. Today is my 5 year anniversary. Sarah and I have had many ups and downs, but I am very proud of the fact that we are standing at precipice of something wonderful as our lives (and occupations) change for the better. I never realized how difficult marriage can be; how it can be incredibly painful to the core. I also never realized how wonderful marriage can be; my happiest moments of my life are either with her or because of her.
Anyway, I dedicate this blog to my wife. I love you. You are my best friend.
The day started out with our only plans being that she would study and I would do laundry. Not super exciting, but stuff that needed to be done. She has a HUGE exam tomorrow and I am tired of new bacterial species evolving from our nasty dirty clothes.
We decide to take a break and go to the bookstore then lunch. Borders did not have her book so we went to Barnes and Noble. We then decide that La Madeline on Bay Area Blvd in the bustling metropolitan known as Webster. It's pretty hopping but we both decide to get the Chicken Salade (no I didn't misspell it. That's how it is on the menu see?) Croissant, with Tomato Basil Pesto Pasta. Sounds awesome doesn't it? On a 109234 degree day it does sound very refreshing.
While going down the line to check out, something catches my eye. It looks like a huge square puff pastry with stuff inside called a Chicken Friand. It's a puff pastry filled with chicken, mushrooms and béchamel sauce. I have no idea what kind of sauce that is, but it looks awesome. Sarah and I look at each other and simultaneously say, "That please." The nice lady happily obliges and then asks, "Would you like mushroom sauce on it"?
UM...NOT IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO THROW UP ON IT
The lady calms me down and calmly explains that it is more creamy than mushroomy and that it is good. I'm still apprehensive so we ask for it on the side. I don't want some nasty sauce screwing up something beautiful.
We sit down by the windows and start to tear into our Briand. The crust is flaky and delicate, while still holding its form.
Oh yeah, did I also mention that IT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!
Sarah is much braver than I am so she dips a piece of hers into the mushroom sauce. OMG somehow it is even better in the sauce!! Good call woman. I will keep you around for another 5 years.
Isn't this sandwich beautiful? Yeah that's what I thought too.
Yeah, it was as good as it looked. The croissant was buttery and flaky, the lettuce was nice and crisp, and the tomato was not soggy. The pasta was amazingly light and refreshing as well.The meal was perfect in every way. On this hot day it was a cool, wonderful, and very filling meal. They sure knocked this meal out of the park! I definitely recommend heading over there for a refreshingly cool lunch this summer. You will be very satisfied!
