I have a collection of core apps for my Android phone that I use on a regular basis regarding the reload of my blog:
1) Poynt (iTunes or Android): so I can see what is close to me. I also use this app for movies but it can do a lot of other things
2) Blogger (iTunes or Android): I can blog from my phone now! So much easier than it used to be. I see myself blogging a lot more often now since it has been made a lot easier now
3) Foodspotting (iTunes or Android): this app is for food porn and I love it.
4) Groupon (iTunes or Android): we all love a good sale, and this app is filled with them! Which leads me to today's blog.
I decided to surf Groupon looking for a new place to eat.about this place in League City that sells Peruvian food. I'm always up for Latin food (especially close to my Ecuador roots) so I decide to wander down there to check it out.
I drive down here and the place is pretty easy to find: in the middle of a strip mall right off Marina Bay Dr. When I walk on though the place is deserted except for one lady waiting for her order. She is casually talking to the lady behind the counter so I patiently wait. While waiting I begin to look around the restaurant.
I love the art that decorate the walls: Very South American style (as expected) but they do not overwhelm the place. There is also a nice bar area that faces the street. In the evening I can see that being a nice place to sit but during the day there is a bad reflective glare that makes it almost impossible to keep your eyes open. I decide a table is going to be the best place to sit and enjoy my meal.
Finally their conversation ends and the lady takes my order. I have had plenty of time to decide on what I want: empanadas, empanadas, and more empanadas. Mom has made them a couple times lately and they are what my pallet craves in this environment. I order a beef and an apple and make my way to the table.

Hey what is going on here! I look at their tablecloth and wonder...you know I haven't seen my yellow table cloth in a while. Did these people take mine? Nah that's not possible. I keep an eye on the lady at the counter just in case she isn't paying attention so I can take my stolen tablecloth home. Apparently when I get hungry I get paranoid that people steal my Latin tablecloths. I start eyeing the other decorations just in case I see some Ecuadorian decoration plates.
My empanadas come together in one basket and I have a problem now. Obviously I want to eat the beef before the apple but I can't tell the difference. They look identical and dusted with equal amounts of confectioners sugar. There is even a lime wedge next to both. Lime wedge? Never tried that before. I assume I squeeze the lime inside once I take a bite because if I squeeze it outside then it will just drip down and serve no purpose except for acidifying my basket.
Can you tell which one that empanada is? I even sniffed them both and could not tell the difference. That is not a good thing. I do the only democratic thing I could think of: eenie meenie miney moe. I grabbed the one on the left and just took a bite. YES! Never doubt the power of random chance! I (luckily) scored the beef one. The ground beef is juicy but not greasy and there is a depth of flavors that remind me of my mom's cooking. My only complaint (besides being a doppelganger for the apple) is that they are pretty small for the price charged. It only took me about 4 bites to finish the whole thing. Yes I know I have a big mouth but they would have taken a normal sized mouth 4-5 bites to finish it.
The apple one was pretty good, but it tasted like an unseasoned version of the empanadas that Taco Bell serves. I didn't try the lime in the apple but now that I am typing this I regret not doing that. Would that lime have activated some hidden flavor that turns average into magical? Next time, empanada, next time.
This place was pretty good. The service was good but of course I was the only one in there eating so they could either stare at me like a zoo animal or serve me nicely and quickly. It is definitely worth checking out, but I would recommend ordering one empanada at a time...unless you are good at random chance games. If you are good at those games, let me know so you can buy my next lottery ticket.
