Happy National Pi Day! For those of you who aren't nerds like me, today is 3/14 AKA 3.14 AKA pi. To celebrate properly I could only go somewhere that could appreciate a day like today: House of Pies.
As I pull into the parking lot an amazing smell engulfs me and confuses me. Delicious bacon smell why are you here? Shouldn't you be at IHOP or my fridge? Thoroughly confused, I walk in and have a seat.
So many pie options and not a big enough stomach for them all. Curse you more aerodynamic body!!! I can't decide between Dutch apple and Bavarian banana so I do the only democratic thing and order both.
First up is Dutch apple with a side of bacon. Both urges need to be satisfied and who am I to deny myself on such a holy day?
At first they are segregated but then on an impulse a piece of apple goodness "fell" on my bacon. Then they both together fell into my mouth. A harmonious symphony of flavors swirl in my mouth until I have to put my fork down out of respect to the moment. Surely this was just a one time thing. Another bite and another wave of bliss. I can't be the first person to ever think of this can I?
Next to bat is the Bavarian banana. More bacon is to come as well because now I am feeling very sciency and testing a hypothesis: If I eat bacon with pie then my food experience will be very awesome. The Bavarian is much more dense than the apple pie.
I'm getting worried that it will cause bacon to crumble but the bacon stands strong...like a beacon of flavor freedom guiding us to eternal peace.
The pairing is still delicious but not as good as apple. Either way though my belly is very happy with what has transpired.
As I waddle home I wonder: are there any other strange but tasty food combinations out there? When can I try my next combination? Will I be able to fit into my work pants by Monday? Either way it doesn't matter: it feels good to be writing again. Happy eating everyone!
